Desert Bighorn Sheep
Hunting desert bighorn sheep in Arizona represents one of the most prestigious challenges in North American big game. The state’s legendary genetics and carefully managed herds produce trophy-class rams that roam some of the most rugged terrain in the Southwest. From the jagged cliffs of desert ranges to remote canyon country, every stalk requires grit, patience, and countless hours behind the glass. Rams thrive in unforgiving landscapes where endurance and determination are tested at every step. Witnessing bugling bulls is unforgettable, but watching rams pick their way across near-vertical rock at sunrise is equally iconic. Taking a desert bighorn here is more than harvesting a trophy; it’s immersing yourself in Arizona’s wildest country and conquering one of the rarest, most coveted hunts in the West.

These hunts will operate from more traditional base camps near hunting areas. Base camps often include heated wall tents, cots, hearty camp meals, and a more rustic feel that places you closer to the action.
-
Travel logistics also vary by unit. Most hunters fly into Phoenix, but depending on where the hunt is taking place Albuquerque could also be an option. Drive times to camp or lodge are typically under two hours.
For added convenience, YOTE can handle all travel arrangements including flights and ground transportation, so you can focus on the hunt and leave the logistics to us.

These hunts are offered for both archery and rifle hunters, giving you multiple ways to pursue Arizona’s desert bighorn sheep.
Archery hunts are the ultimate test of skill, with long glassing sessions, grueling climbs, and razor-thin shot opportunities in unforgiving terrain. Spot-and-stalk is the only way to hunt these rams, requiring patience, stealth, and precision. Every close encounter with a desert bighorn is earned, and a successful bowhunt represents one of the rarest achievements in North American hunting.
Rifle hunts bring a different pace but remain equally demanding. Hunters spend long days behind the glass, covering vast canyons and ridgelines before making careful stalks into the broken rock where rams live. Shots are often at distance, with opportunities at mature, free-range sheep that have survived years in harsh desert country.
All hunts are fully guided, with expert outfitters assisting every step of the way from navigating rugged terrain and locating rams to recovery and care of the harvest.
Securing a tag is an essential part of the process. Arizona operates on a public draw system. YOTE works directly with our outfitter partners to help clients maximize their odds, creating a clear pathway to experience one of the most coveted hunts in the West.
