Coues deer hunts primarily take place late fall through winter, with peak opportunities during the rut in December and January when bucks are more visible and active.

Hunt style
Spot-and-stalk hunting in rugged desert and mountain terrain, centered around extended glassing sessions, earning Coues deer the nickname “Grey Ghost.” Hunts can be moderately physical, with bow hunts requiring close-range stalking and rifle hunts allowing for longer shots across open country.

Primarily found in the Southwestern United States, including Arizona and New Mexico, in desert and oak-covered mountain habitats.
