Oryx, Ibex, and Aoudad
New Mexico is home to some of the most exciting free-range exotic hunting in the country, with rugged mountains, desert basins, and broken canyon country that provide perfect habitat for aoudad, oryx, and ibex. These hunts are as challenging as they are rewarding, with every stalk demanding patience, glassing ability, and physical grit. Hunters may find themselves scaling steep cliffs for wary ibex, picking apart rocky mesas for bands of aoudad, or glassing vast desert flats for the unmistakable horns of an oryx. Whether pursuing these exotics with archery equipment or a rifle, the opportunity to chase them in true free-range settings makes for a world-class adventure.

Accommodations on these hunts vary widely depending on the unit and style of hunt.
These hunts will operate from more traditional base camps or even hotels near hunting areas. Base camps often include heated wall tents, cots, hearty camp meals, and a more rustic feel that places you closer to the action.
Because accommodations vary by location, hunters should be prepared for both ends of the spectrum unless they specifically request a preferred option when booking.
YOTE takes care of booking and coordinating hotel accommodations, so you can arrive knowing every detail is already handled.
-
Travel logistics also vary by unit. Most hunters fly into Albuquerque, which serves as the most common hub, though El Paso and Phoenix can be closer depending on where the hunt is taking place. Drive times to camp or lodge are typically under two hours.
For added convenience, YOTE can handle all travel arrangements including flights and ground transportation, so you can focus on the hunt and leave the logistics to us.

These hunts are offered for archery & rifle hunters giving you multiple ways to pursue New Mexico’s free-range exotics.
Archery hunts deliver a true test of patience and precision, with long glassing sessions, rugged stalks, and demanding shot opportunities. Spot-and-stalk is the primary method, whether slipping through rocky canyons in pursuit of ibex, picking apart cliffs for bands of aoudad, or shadowing desert flats for a free-range oryx. Every bowhunt requires stealth, grit, and accuracy under pressure, making a successful shot on any of these species is an accomplishment few hunters ever experience.
Rifle hunts bring a different pace but no less of a challenge. Long days of glassing, climbing, and carefully planned stalks are the norm, with each species presenting unique hurdles. Ibex clinging to near-vertical rock, aoudad bedding in near-impossible terrain, and oryx roaming wide-open country with unmatched eyesight. Rifle hunters can expect opportunities at mature, free-range animals, often across impressive distances.
All hunts are fully guided, with experienced outfitters assisting every step of the way from navigating rugged terrain and reading animal behavior to recovery and care of the harvest.
Securing a tag is an essential part of the process. New Mexico offers both public draw tags and landowner permits (Only for Aoudad). Also, working through the outfitter ensures hunters maximize their odds. This flexibility gives every hunter a clear pathway to chase these extraordinary species in a truly wild, free-range setting.
YOTE can assist clients with every step of this process, from navigating the state’s draw system to securing landowner permits through our outfitter network so hunters can focus on the adventure, not the paperwork.
