Flax Hills Hunting is a family-owned, fair-chase outfitter located in New Zealand’s South Island near the Kaikōura ranges, offering classic high-country hunting across rolling lowlands, steep hills, and rugged mountain terrain on private, free-range land. Hunts emphasize spot-and-stalk methods with opportunities for Red Stag, Fallow Deer, Himalayan Tahr, Arapawa Ram, and other species depending on the program. Guests stay in a comfortable homestead lodge featuring warm Kiwi hospitality, hearty meals, and a relaxed post-hunt atmosphere. Flax Hills is known for personalized guiding, flexible itineraries, quality trophies, and an authentic, non-commercial New Zealand hunting experience.

  • Accommodations at Flax Hills Hunting are provided in a comfortable homestead lodge that blends classic New Zealand high-country style with modern conveniences.

    The lodge features private bedrooms, clean en-suite or shared bathrooms, comfortable common living and dining areas, Wi-Fi, laundry facilities, and hearty home-cooked meals served daily.

    With scenic views of the surrounding hills and a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere, the lodge is an ideal place to unwind, share stories, and enjoy genuine Kiwi hospitality after a day in the field.

  • Flax Hills Hunting is located on New Zealand’s South Island near the Kaikōura region and is most easily accessed by flying into Christchurch International Airport.

    From Christchurch, guests typically enjoy a scenic drive of approximately 2.5 hours to the lodge, with transfers available upon request.

    International travelers generally route through Auckland before connecting to Christchurch, and the outfitter can assist with airport pickups, firearm permits or rifle rentals, and coordination of trophy handling and export logistics to ensure a smooth arrival and departure.

  • Hunting at Flax Hills centers on authentic, fair-chase spot-and-stalk experiences across varied South Island terrain, from rolling lowlands to steep high-country hills and rugged mountain country.

    Hunts are fully guided and customized to each hunter’s goals and ability, with opportunities for Red Stag, Fallow Deer, Himalayan Tahr, Arapawa Ram, and other species depending on the program.

    Guests may hunt with either rifle or bow, and some mountain hunts incorporate helicopter access to reach remote areas.

    The focus is on challenging stalks, quality free-range trophies, and a true New Zealand high-country hunting experience.

    Daily Rates

    • 1 Guide / 1 Hunter: $700 per day

    • 1 Guide / 2 Hunters: $500 per day

    Non-Hunter Rates

    • Guided activity: $500–$700 per day

    • Lodge only: $350 per day

    Deposits & Payments

    • 10% to book, 20% due 3 months prior, balance due at hunt completion. Bank transfer, credit card (3% fee), or cash/check accepted.
