Tail Inn Fly Fishing Lodge is perched on the edge of Espiritu Santo Bay in Mexico, a destination celebrated worldwide for its permit fishery and pristine flats. This boutique lodge blends remote seclusion with modern comfort, giving anglers direct access to the Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve, an untouched saltwater wilderness teeming with permit, bonefish, tarpon, snook, and more. With just five well-appointed rooms, the lodge hosts up to ten anglers at a time, ensuring personalized attention and an intimate atmosphere. From expertly guided fishing days to exceptional dining and sunset cocktails by the Caribbean, the Tail Inn delivers a saltwater experience that is equal parts adventure and luxury.

  • Tail Inn is designed with both comfort and character in mind. Despite its remote setting, the lodge offers the amenities you’d expect from a modern retreat: air conditioning, private bathrooms, high-speed internet, and both indoor and outdoor bars stocked for evening gatherings.

Each of the five rooms overlooks the white sands and turquoise waters of the Caribbean, placing guests just steps from the flats where the day’s adventure begins.

The dining program is a highlight in itself. Meals are prepared from fresh, locally sourced ingredients and inspired by traditional Mayan and Mexican family recipes refined over 40 years.

Days start with strong Mexican coffee, fresh-squeezed juice, and hearty breakfasts.

On the water, anglers enjoy gourmet lunches prepared with the same care, whether layered sandwiches or regional specialties.

Evenings bring cocktails and fresh-caught seafood, with menus featuring grilled octopus, chimichurri arrachera, and indulgent desserts.

After dinner, guests can unwind under the stars with a cocktail in hand and the sound of the surf rolling in just beyond the lodge.

  • Traveling to Tail Inn is straightforward, with YOTE helping to make the process seamless. Guests fly into Tulum International Airport, where they are greeted and transferred to the lodge by private ground shuttle. The scenic drive gives anglers a chance to see the Yucatán Peninsula before arriving at the white sands of Punta Herrero.

For those looking to maximize comfort and efficiency, helicopter transfers can also be arranged directly to the lodge, cutting travel time significantly while offering stunning aerial views of the Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve.

For added convenience, YOTE can handle all travel arrangements including flights and ground transportation, so you can focus on the fishing and leave the logistics to us.

  • Espiritu Santo Bay is one of the most legendary saltwater fisheries in the world, and Tail Inn sits right in the heart of it. The bay is renowned for its dense populations of permit, ranging from tailing fish in shallow water to singles, doubles, and schools cruising the flats. The lodge offers one of the best opportunities anywhere to pursue the elusive Grand Slam (permit, tarpon, and bonefish in a single day) and even the rare Super Slam (adding snook to the list).

Fishing here is diverse and seasonally rich. Permit and bonefish are available year-round, while migratory tarpon peak in the summer months of June through August. Snook and juvenile tarpon fishing is exceptional from November through February. Jack crevalle, barracuda, and triggerfish round out the list of targets, keeping every cast full of possibility.

Guided by local experts with deep knowledge of the flats, anglers can expect long days on the water with plenty of shots at trophy fish in a wild, unpressured environment.
