    Tarpon are migratory fish that spend the year in warm tropical and subtropical waters.

    Peak fishing varies by region, with prime Caribbean opportunities during the dry season, and strong seasonal runs along Florida, the Gulf Coast, and the Atlantic Coast from April through October.

  • Difficulty Level

    Known as the Silver King, tarpon are among the most challenging gamefish to land. Both Atlantic and Indo-Pacific species demand advanced skills in casting accuracy, presentation, and fish-fighting technique for fly and conventional anglers alike.

  • Regions

    Tarpon are found in coastal tropical and subtropical waters, ranging from South America and Central America to the Gulf of Mexico and Atlantic Coast.

    Key destinations include the Mexican Gulf Coast, Florida Keys, Central America, and Caribbean islands, with Indo-Pacific tarpon found in select regions abroad.

  • Gear

    Fly anglers typically use 10–12 weight rods paired with floating or intermediate lines and reels with strong, smooth drag systems.
