    Permit can be fished year-round in most places. However, it is best to fish for them during dry season periods.

    Permit fishing is almost always sight casting, so storms, rain, and high winds can affect the success on a trip.

  • Difficulty Level

    Permit are a tricky fish to make eat a fly. Often requiring a very well placed cast and perfectly guided presentation. They are notoriously picky and strong fighters.

  • Regions

    Permit are found in tropical waters of the Caribbean Sea and Atlantic Ocean, with additional opportunities in the Indian and Pacific Oceans for those pursuing Indo-Pacific permit.

  • Gear

    For Fly Anglers, we recommend 9-12 weight rods, with both floating and intermediate lines, as well as reels with sturdy anti-locking drag systems.
